Kampala Metropolitan Police South has arrested 14 suspects in a targeted operation aimed at a criminal network accused of attacking boda boda riders across the city.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, at Muganzirwaza Building involved searches of multiple shops believed to be linked to the syndicate. Police recovered several exhibits believed to be connected to motorcycle robberies.
According to Luke Owoyesigire, the recovered items include six Bajaj Boxer motorcycles with registration numbers UDJ 081A, UEO 147V, UFH 038X, UDX 342P, UEJ 419G, and UDU 722G.
Additional items seized include sacks containing dismantled motorcycle spare parts, a blue polythene bag of assorted spare parts, two motorcycle frames, two sacks of metal parts, and number plate frames.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are part of a criminal group responsible for a series of motorcycle robberies reported since 2025.
According to police, the syndicate allegedly lured boda boda riders from distant areas by posing as customers before attacking them with pangas and stealing their motorcycles, which were later dismantled and sold for parts.
“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks targeting boda boda riders. We recovered several exhibits that we believe are linked to these robberies, and investigations are continuing,” Owoyesigire said.
Police confirmed that the operation is ongoing, with security teams pursuing other suspects believed to be at large. Authorities have promised further updates as the investigations progress.
